The National Intellectual Property Training Centre (NIPTC) is a unit of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of Trinidad and Tobago, The IPO is a department of the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Legal Affairs.
The NIPTC mandate is to provide education, information, and training (EIT) services in Intellectual Property (IP) and to promote inventiveness and creativity.
It is being managed by the Controller of the IPO and the Specialist in Technical Information (to be designated as the Director of EIT), a Librarian, and a Secretary. Twenty-eight (28) persons, ten (10) from the IPO, one (1) from the University of West Indies, two (2) from Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) and fifteen (15) from the private sector have been trained by the World Intellectual Property (WIPO) Academy as Trainers of the NIPTC.
The NIPTC has developed partnerships with key actors of the national innovation ecosystem to assist it in the design and delivery of education, information and training programmes.
It plans to offer in the short term basic, intermediate, and some advanced courses in IP and IP Management. Additionally, some short professional development type training courses to promote the use of IP tools, the IP system, and information resources in government and industry.
The NIPTC is established with Technical Assistance from the WIPO Academy. The WIPO Academy is committed to providing assistance to the NIPTC to support its operations, growth, and development.
