The TTIPO is a division of the Ministry of Land and Legal Affairs which is responsible for the education and registration of intellectual property (IP) rights. From its creation, the TTIPO has sensitized the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago to the importance of Intellectual Property (IP) rights as both a means of protecting one’s innovative creations as well as a tool for economic benefit. This is a statutory commitment pursuant to Section 4(1) of the Patents Act Chap. 82:76 which provides that the Controller is responsible for the promotion of inventiveness among citizens of Trinidad and Tobago inter alia.
Under the CARIPI project of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), on February 20, 2024, materials for teachers and students based on the EUIPO’s IdeasPowered@school were created. These materials has been adapted to the Caribbean context and are the result of collaborative efforts between the Trinidad and Tobago Intellectual Property Office together with the EUIPO and its consultants.

Additionally, In collaboration with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA), and with funding from FIT/Korea IP, WIPO has developed six educational episodes of Pororo. These episodes aim to introduce children to the fundamentals of intellectual property rights, encourage respect for the ideas of others, and inspire them to generate original ideas of their own.
To complement the first three episodes, accompanying workbooks have been created to reinforce the concepts introduced in the videos. Through a series of hands-on, creativity-enhancing activities, these workbooks are designed to nurture children’s natural creative instincts and intuitive thinking.
