Mr. Anthony D. Vieira
Anthony has been practicing law since 1983 with a special interest in intellectual property, telecommunications, entertainment, environmental, corporate, and commercial work.
Between 1993 and 1995 he served as Senior Crown Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers in the British Virgin Islands where, besides advising and litigating on matters involving public law, he successfully prosecuted serious and complex criminal offences and high-profile cases pertaining to the regulation of offshore financial services.
A certified Advanced Commercial Mediator, Anthony has been conducting mediations for over 18 years. He has served as the Law Association’s representative on the Mediation Board of Trinidad and Tobago (2010-2014).
He is one of the founders of Dialogue Solutions (a Regional ADR Centre), IP Juncture, and the Trinidad and Tobago Association for Sports and Law. Anthony has been Chairman of the Standing Negotiating Committee on Air Services Agreements since February 2018.
This is Anthony’s third term as an Independent Senator of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. He chairs the Joint Select Committee on State Enterprises and is Vice-President for the Caribbean of the ParlAmericas Parliamentary network on climate change.
Anthony was a member of the Ad Hoc Committee to review the intellectual property laws of Trinidad and Tobago. He was involved in the review and drafting of the Copyright Bill 1996, and the Telecommunications Bill 2000 which laid the foundation to liberalise the telecommunication sector.
He was WIPO’s consultant for reviewing and drafting amendments to the Copyright Act, bringing Trinidad and Tobago in line with the Marrakesh and Beijing Treaties, and for writing the text ‘Investigating and Prosecuting IP Crime in Trinidad and Tobago’ which was published in 2021.
Anthony has wide knowledge and depth of experience in the entertainment and sports sectors. He was a trustee and legal advisor of the National Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago. He has acted for and been an advisor to the National Carnival Bands Association for over 25 years. He has represented and advised the Copyright Music Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago, the Trinidad and Tobago Reprographic Rights Organisation, media houses, advertising agencies, actors, artists, designers, musicians, filmmakers, writers, sports associations, and sportsmen.
