Fanta Punch is a Partner and Head of the Intellectual Property Department of M. Hamel-Smith & Co.

On joining the firm Fanta spent a number of years in the Litigation department representing clients in a number of civil litigation, debt collection and enforcement matters.

Fanta now heads the firm’s Intellectual Property practice, with particular expertise in intellectual property infringement, anti-counterfeiting matters and border enforcement actions.

She is also engaged in the management of IP portfolios and advises on brand protection issues, licensing, assignment, and distribution agreements. She represents clients in opposition and cancellation proceedings. She advises on anti-competition law and data privacy/data protection issues. Her trademark and anti-counterfeiting experience includes representing international manufacturers of footwear, apparel, clothing, personal household items, personal care items, alcohol, and pharmaceuticals.

Other recent experience includes:

  • Represented major cement manufacturer in trademark prosecution and opposition proceedings throughout the
  • Handled trademark opposition proceedings on behalf of major personal hygiene
  • Represented major international distributor of alcoholic products on trademark infringement
  • Management of trademark portfolios for international clients in the food, retail products, and pharmaceutical industries.

Fanta is a WIPO Neutral on WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center’s List of Mediators. She is also a certified Trainer of the National Intellectual Property Training Center of Trinidad & Tobago.
